His perfume

I wandered
There I stood
All of a sudden
I reached for it
I felt it
I breathed it
I used it
Walking out
I realized what I had done
You were all over me
Every memory
A sweet smell scented with repulsion
How was I ever going to rid you?

  1. I have heard it said that smell is the strongest sense when it comes to recollections. Even now I experience scents that take me back suddenly to certain places, certain people.
My Grandparents, for example. And decades on, I couldn’t tell you what perfume my first, fourteen year old girlfriend used. But when I smell it. I know.
Of course I never comment on it, but I know.

    1. Yes, I’ve heard the same. Same for me, especially scents which are associated with loved people or emotional experiences. I once starting dating a guy who had the same perfume as my ex. Didn’t go very well, I think it was doomed from the start 😉

      1. 🙂
I’ve got some Paris pics coming up for you this week Andy. Some quick editing is done and I’ve portioned them out so that you can be inspired all week long. I expect fabulous poetry in return! (no pressure)

      2. Yes, I’ve been! It’s a fantastic city. So much history, lots of green areas, nice people, relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced food and hotels/hostels.
I missed your post. I’ll go and check it out immediately!

      3. I don’t know why I asked-you’ve been everywhere!
I know someone who says it’s his favourite city in the whole world.
I also did a post about an upset woman in a Manchester cinema before it. I contributed. 🙂

      4. I’m a little bird, a child before Christmas, a dieting person ordering chocolate cake at a restaurant – can’t sit still, stay in one place, gotta go, gotta go, gotta go! 😉

  2. I saw this quote on another blog this morning, and thought of your comment:
A bird, wherever it goes, is happy because it is free of burdens.
