To learn

To see you sit where he used to sit
See you look at me the way he used to look at me
Feel your touch the way he used to touch me
The memories, the painful moments all come rushing back
My body has stored all
With the gentle touch of your fingers on my face, I shutter
I pull back, afraid it’s all returning, that it’s all starting over again
I must learn that you are not him and I am not her
That your eyes speak a different language
Your touch means no harm
That my body is safe when it is next to yours.
I must learn to love again
And with patience and time
I think I will manage.
